This fall, campus organizations will be inundated with applications and resumés, for everything from scholarships and study abroad programs to part-time jobs.
Applications will also be accepted for the University of Minnesota Board of Regents.
Regent positions are opening in the 1st, 4th, 6th, and 7th districts. Applicants must be current residents of one of these districts.
The 12-member Board of Regents governs the University at large, along with University President Bob Bruininks. Regents serve unpaid six-year terms and work to approve or reject funding allocations, shifts in University policy and presidential appointments and replacements, among other administrative responsibilities.
Each of Minnesota's eight congressional districts are represented by one regent, with four additional regents representing the state at large.
The Regent Candidate Advisory Council is looking for applicants who understand the role of the University, both in higher education and as a research institution, are good listeners and are able to devote the necessary time it takes to fulfill a Regent's duties, according to a release.
University students are only eligible for an at-large regent position, which aren't open. Residents from the 1st, 4th, 6th, and 7th districts must apply by 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 10. Public interviews are scheduled to be conducted in January 2009.
